Formica Group launched 180fx® laminate in 2009 to bring the large-scale drama of exotic and expensive natural stones to everyday spaces. Traditionally, laminate patterns are created using a step-and-repeat process, with designs that replicate every 45 to 75cm. The design team had a new goal: Create a natural looking laminate pattern with no pattern repeats. The team worked with decorative paper printers to develop new scanning and printing technology allowing designs to span the full width of a laminate sheet. 180fx® laminate revolutionised the industry with highly realistic, elegant and large-scale visuals of natural stone slabs and wood.
